" Vulture Kid "
Year and Place: 2020, Southern Mexico.
Brief: This series was shot in a landfill, where the subject worked informally alongside his parents, who collected cardboard, aluminum, plastic, and any other materials that could be sold. My primary purpose for being at the landfill was to work alongside my crew, as we were shooting a 360 video project where the kid was also participating. At the end of the short film shooting, I asked him to pose with a garbage mountain behind him, as one truck was dumping garbage at the top of the mountain. The carrion birds flew when the waste almost touched them. In that moment, I asked him to open his arms as if he were a bird. He understood the reference, but also gave me the certainty that he refused that kind of shadow at the top of his tree of life.
